You can’t rush good barbecue and you can’t rush success. This is something that Swig & Swine owner and pitmaster Anthony DiBernardo knows well. With more than 25 years in the culinary world, the larger-than-life former Navy submariner has built something special here in Charleston. In 2014 Anthony fulfilled his life-long dream of opening his own restaurant and it didn’t take long before word got out about Swig & Swine’s “all-wood all-the-time” approach to classics like pulled pork, ribs, turkey, and brisket. Anthony doesn’t believe in shortcuts and this is evident in Swig & Swine’s award-winning smoked meats and delicious side dishes, which have been putting smiles on the faces of barbecue lovers for the better part of a decade now.

Eight years and thousands of pounds of smoked meat later, Swig & Swine now has locations in West Ashley, Summerville, and Mt. Pleasant and the accolades just keep pouring in. Swig & Swine has been named a “Legendary Establishment in BBQ” by the Certified Angus Beef® Brand, Southern Living listed Swig & Swine as one of the “South’s Top 50 Barbecue Joints,” Eater has it as one of “6 Standout Barbecue Spots in Charleston,” Thrillist named it as one of “13 Not-to-Miss BBQ Joints in the Carolinas,” and readers of both Charleston City Paper and The Post & Courier have voted for Swig & Swine for numerous “Best Of” awards. Additionally, Anthony was recently named “Restaurateur of the Year” by the South Carolina Restaurant & Lodging Association.

But beyond all the awards and can’t miss BBQ lists, Anthony’s commitment to community is what has truly made Swig & Swine a beloved and essential part of the Lowcountry’s culinary fabric. Whether it’s donating to local schools, cooking for non-profits, or helping the needy during the holidays, Anthony believes in the power of barbecue as a source of comfort.
